MIMMI MÅNSTRÅLE FIELDING, 24 YEAR OLD STUDENT FROM SWEDEN. HE  INTEREST IN CREATING HAS ALWAYS BEEN PRESENT, ALTHOUGH IT BECAME MORE THAN A HOBBY WHEN SHE WAS NINETEEN, WHEN SHE MOVED TO SOUTHEN SWEDEN TO STUDY THE FUNDAMENTALS OF DRESSMAKING.  A COUPLE OF YEARS LATER SHE STARTED HER STUDIES AT THE SWEDISH SCHOOL OF TEXTILES IN BORÅS. AFTER INTERNING AT IDA SJÖSTEDT AND MARQUES ALMEIDA WHO BOTH DO WOMENSWEAR, SHE DECIDED TO TAKE HER EXPERIENCE OF WOMEN’S CLOTHING AND COMBINE IT WITH HER INTEREST FOR MENSWEAR.

THIS WORK EXPLORES STEREOTYPICAL FEMININE DECORATIVE ELEMENTS, WITH A FOCUS ON RUFFLES. RUFFLES ARE PRIMARILY USED AS A DECORATION WITHIN WOMENSWEAR, RUFFLES SHOULD NOT ONLY BE USED AS A DECORATION TO GARMENTS AND FURTHERMORE, NOT BE LIMITED TO WOMENWEAR.  A DESIRED OUTCOME HAS BEEN THAT THE GARMENTS EXHIBIT THE POSITIVE AND FUNCTIONAL CHARACTERISTICS THAT RUFFLES GIVE SUCH AS, INCREASING VOLUME, LESS PREDICTABLE SILHOUETTES AND INTERESTING MOVEMENT.

THEREFORE, THIS RESEARCH HAS FOCUSED ON AN EXPLORATION INTO MENSWEAR WHERE RUFFLES BECOME AN INTEGRATED PART OF THE GARMENTS WITH INCREASED SIGNIFICANCE.

TO CREATE AN EXPRESSIONAL EXCITEMENT OTHER FEMININE DECORATIVE ELEMENTS HAS BEEN USED IN COMBINATION WITH MORE TRADITIONAL MENSWEAR GARMENT SUCH AS THE SUIT JACKET.
