Here at Fashion Scout, we are dedicated to nurturing design talent throughout their creative journey in the industry. Therefore you can imagine that we were incredibly proud to hear that designer Katie Ann McGuigan had recently scooped the Mittelmoda Award for the most creative collection. Presented in Milan, the renowned international design competition looks at a selection of budding designers – judging menswear, womenswear and accessories collections from all over the world.

AS SHE FOLLOWS THE FOOTSTEPS OF PREVIOUS MERIT AWARD WINNERS INCLUDING DAVID KOMA, PHEOBE ENGLISH AND EUDON CHOI, THERE IS NO UNDERESTIMATING THAT THERE ARE BIG THINGS TO COME FROM THIS YOUNG IRISH DESIGNER.

It is certainly true to say that all eyes have been on this fresh talent, having won the Fashion Scout Merit Award after turning many heads with her mesmerising AW17 collection.

INSPIRED BY PHOTOGRAPHER MICHAEL CHELBIN'S WORK ON RUSSIAN AND UKRAINIAN YOUTH PRISONS, HER SIGNATURE LOOKS WERE COMPRISED OF BOLD PRIMARY COLOURS, OVERSIZED OUTERWEAR AND INTRICATE PRINTS AND PATTERNS.

McGuigan graduated from the University of Westminster with First Class honours in 2016, and has since landed stints at a number of the big names – MCQ, Marc Jacobs, Giles Deacon and Jonathan Saunders, to name a few. Having worked on both womenswear and menswear collections, it is clear that her attention to detail and technical abilities have marked her ahead of the game in the country’s emerging creative talent. It is a pleasure to see her succeed, and we look forward to see what the future holds for Katie.
