We caught up with Rocky Star, the innovative Indian designer, known for altering perceptions of fashion in his home country. Designing for both celebrity and the public, Rocky's inimitable style, touch for luxury and ability to portray characters accurately means that he is heavily embedded in Bollywood's fraternity. After an awe inspiring show for spring summer 18 we caught up with the creative to hear about his inspirations and thoughts on the show.
What was your show/presentation for SS18 inspired by?
My collection for SS18 was inspired by a vision of self-love and confidence that encouraged and urged one to look beyond the ordinary and the obvious and step into a world of psychedelic wonderment.
‘Maya’ is the story of a woman who is an undeniable force of nature, unbound, fierce and free. Like creatures that glow she has a light of her own, to protect herself to stand strong and alone. The essence of ‘Maya’ is deeply rooted in illusions.
How did you find showing your collection this season?
It has always been a dream to showcase my work at such a prestigious platform. My work has been appreciated and I have received a tremendous amount of love. Presenting at my fourth season was just as exciting as presenting at my first.
What was your favourite part of showing with Fashion Scout during London Fashion Week?
My favourite part has to be the overall ambience. To be in and a part of a city that lives and breathes fashion and to have the chance to see and meet some of the best in the industry; it is a special experience.
What are your plans now?
After a spectacular show this season, I am now gearing up to prepare and start working on my next collection.
An amalgamation of exotic animal print, vibrant colour palettes and classic silhouettes in this collection, ensured a coherent mix true to Rocky Star's core identity this season. After the show held at Freemasons' Hall, we're eager to see the creations that Rocky Star sends down the catwalk for AW17.
