Celebrated for their take on genderless fashion, Theo VII Studio surprised audiences at The Fashion Scout with a different take on their usual simple, elegant designs. Inspired by the world of Shamanism the three designers, Miao Ho, Yu Ding and Tan Xue Yi, explored the spirit world, challenging transcendental energies that surround good and evil in the world. The Garments came in a variety of silhouettes and colours and resulted in an innovative AW17 collection that really captured the spiritual and physical paths a Shaman walks on.

Co-founded by Miao Ho, Yu Ding and Tan Xue Yi in 2015, Theo VII Studio has worked towards breaking gender barriers to achieve balance and harmony between mens- and womenswear. The three designers all focus on different aesthetic design techniques and when put together create unique and timeless garments.

Theo VII Studio’s runway show at The Fashion Scout told the wonderful story of the Shaman’s travels, celebrating his experience and knowledge. Tassel and fringe was a reoccurring element throughout the collection as each strip of clothing attached to a Shaman’s robe stands for a place they have travelled. While fringed belts and jackets gave the whole collection coherence, this motif found its climax in an overgarment woven completely out of tassel.

The AW17 collection illustrates an innovative way of capturing the Shaman’s tradition to adorn their clothes mirrors to repel evil spirits. Attaching reflective sequins and beads to jackets and accessories, the designers added a unique richness and depth to their runway.
