Paul Alger, UKFT

Paul Alger is Director of International Business Development at UKFT and has worked in the industry for over 26 years, originally starting his working life in the food import and marketing industry with lots of stories to tell!

He is a graduate in Modern Languages, Politics and Economics and has lived, worked and studied in the former Soviet Union, France and Switzerland. His main languages are English, French, Italian and Russian, but he also has working knowledge of a number of other languages including German, Spanish, Portuguese, Swedish, Dutch and some Japanese.

Since 1989, he has worked with UK designers and manufacturers in the fashion and textile industry, offering business advice and support, particularly relating to international trade and trade shows. He has worked with most of the major international trade shows including menswear, womenswear, lingerie and beachwear, childrenswear and accessories and more recently has been involved with shows for textiles and textile designs. He is experienced in the established markets of Europe and the USA but also has extensive experience and contacts in Japan, Russia and China.

He has served on various London Fashion Week accessories selection panels and as a judge for the UK Lingerie Awards and the British Council’s Young Fashion Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. For a number of years he was the fashion industry representative on the Government’s Creative Industries Strategy Group and currently serves on the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Trade & Investment. Recently, he was a contributor in BBC TV’s Digby Jones: The New Troubleshooter programme.

He is UKFT’s main point of contact with the Private Office of UKFT’s active President, HRH The Princess Royal.
