Mimpikita’s Woman: Elegant, Stylish, Celebrated
Mimpikita celebrates the diversity of their design team with a collection that was beautiful, coherent, and elegant. The brand, founded by the Zulkifli sisters Nurul, Amirah and Syahirah, place inclusivity and female empowerment at the forefront of their collections – concepts which are rarely as obviously well executed as they were in Mimpikita’s show.
The show had an energy that is hard to find at fashion events – a playlist of Whitney Houston set the mood as playful, fun and energetic. As the lights dimmed and the first beat of ‘How Will I Know’ started to play, the models started to float down the runway in shades of brown, pink, and blue. Abstract bold prints and silk floral maxi skirts were followed by red checked trousers and camel dresses. Well-tailored tunics with statement, oversized sleeves were worn with matching trousers and roll-neck jumpers; outfits perfect for long days musing around an Eastern European city. A two-tone nude silk and chiffon dress with embellished straps was styled over a blue long-sleeved roll-neck – a look that was simultaneously beautiful, feminine, practical and graceful.
The collection itself was beautiful, but there was nothing more impressive than the attention to detail that was evident throughout the show; embellished pockets on navy blue silk shirts added a third dimension of delicacy, whilst a rouge cropped jumper paired with a navy-blue maxi skirt was elevated by the addition of embellishment and fringing along the waistline to create a look of pure glamour and sophistication. The attention to detail wasn’t solely focused on the clothing; hair accessories and shoes were simple, glamorous and inclusive – over half of the models were wearing hair-scarves, a welcome sight at London Fashion Week that champions love and acceptance above all else.
That the show exhibited tailored outerwear in muted tones alongside embellished dresses and soft skirts in shades of pink and blue showed that the Zulkifli sisters have indeed managed to create a collection that caters to every woman.
“We were inspired by the diversity of our team – each person has a different cultural background so we wanted to create a tribute to that”
I think it’s safe to say that they did just that; they successfully created a collection that acted as a beautiful celebration of the resilience and power of women across the world.
