Billie Jacobina is one of this season’s Fashion Scout Ones To Watch award winners. After graduating from UCA Rochester, Billie went on to win the Graduate Fashion Week Residency Award in Jakarta. Her SS17 collection is a blend of traditional techniques and contemporary details. Graphic prints are printed onto sequins, the sparkle helping to illuminate the story behind the collection. Inspired by Lewis Carroll's Alice In Wonderland, Billie has created her own story of a little lost mermaid called Luna, who finds herself in an underwater wonderland of her own and thecontemporary twists in the textile techniques used seems to inspire her collection title, 'C-LYF'.

The bright colours and the sparkle of the collection add life to a gloomy day in London as C-LYF is sent down the catwalk to a booming “Freak Like Me” soundtrack. The first garment evoked a gasp of appreciation from the audience, a holographic oversized coat adorned with bright pink faux fur. The holographic textures mirrored the scales of a fish, and other sea-like creatures appeared in abstract jellyfish embroidery and subtle colourful octopus prints. All of the textures of the ocean were represented in the collection and the eyewear provided by Specsavers added a bit of casual atmosphere and made the outlandish outfits seem more wearable.
